Poker is a game that is played by a group of people around a table. The goal is to create the best hand possible. When a player raises, the next player in the betting line is required to make a match bet. Once the players make their match bets, they will continue to bet until all the players have folded.

A poker hand has five cards. A straight is five cards of the same suit. Flush is five cards of the same suit in sequential order. King, Queen, Jack and Ace are the highest cards. Two straights with the same suit and rank are known as two pair, and three pairs are two pairs plus a fifth card.

Ties break when all players have the same high card. When no one has the highest card, a flop of two pairs or three pairs wins. However, if two of the same hands have a high card, the higher hand wins. Similarly, two fours of the same rank win.

Players can place their bets in the middle of the table. These bets are made clockwise. At the end of each round, the player who makes the best bet in the pot is the winner.

After the first betting round, each player is given two cards. One of these cards is the front hand and the other is the back hand. When both the front and the back hand are equal in value, a split pot is formed. For instance, if two players have a pair of kings, the highest card wins. Likewise, when both players have a pair of jacks, the player with the highest card wins.

All of the cards are then shuffled by the dealer. After the deck is shuffled, the initial dealer is chosen. Generally, this is the person who received the highest card. They will then advance the steps of the game.
